  • To provide leadership and support to staff teams to ensure the highest quality therapeutic care is delivered to young people as part of the integrated services.
  • Act as a leader, role model and coordinator of shifts, fully deputising for the Registered Home Manager in their absence.
  • To lead the development of the young person’s Quality of Life Plan ensuring its delivery on a daily basis and ensuring that all the basic physical needs of the young person are met, providing guidance to colleagues in this regard, communicating goals, objectives and practice to staff teams to support development.
  • To provide leadership and guidance to support decision making that is always in the best interests of the young people and the organisations; actively monitoring and providing feedback to individuals.
  • To be alert to signs of distress, neglect or abuse, ensuring that the young people are monitored and protected.
  • To know, understand and role model the cultural and behavioural expectations as leading provider of therapeutic childcare and employer of choice.
  • To know, understand and promote the service delivery as a leading provider of therapeutic childcare, as a commercial ambassador for the company.

Key Activities

  • To act in a manner that is befitting as provider of children’s services and in line with the organisation’s values at all times.

  • To understand and apply safeguarding practices and processes, maintaining vigilance when supervising young people in line with risk assessments to ensure that significant behaviours are noted and recorded, actively monitoring and providing feedback in this regard to individuals and to line manager.
  • Contribute to the meeting of organisation Key Performance Indicators.
  • To communicate effectively with staff teams about regulatory requirements to support the homes delivery of high quality care.
  • To demonstrate the ability to accurately communicate the child’s need as identified in the Quality of Life plan to other professionals
  • To utilise the organisations whistle blowing policy to ensure that poor practice, negligence and dishonesty is dealt with appropriately.
  • To be accountable for all records, systems and operating procedures of the home actively monitoring quality and providing frequent feedback to staff teams in this regard.
  • To demonstrate a strong understanding of PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy) House Model of Therapeutic Parenting and implement this on a daily basis in the care of young people ad demonstrate the ability to develop learning for staff teams in this regard.
  • To role model and develop in others an understanding of the complexity of the working environment regards the impact of young people’s behaviours and their effects on the organisations resources.
  • To contribute to the co-ordination of training for staff teams and positively reinforce learning with regard to training – including PRICE (Protecting Rights in a caring environment) on a daily basis, providing guidance to colleagues and challenging poor practice of others.
  • To contribute actively to the strategic developments of all aspects of the home, including a therapeutic home environment – planning, organising and delegating to others to assist in this process.
  • To set high standards of home-making and care for the fabric, equipment and grounds of the homes and wider organisation. Role modelling this standard to others and challenging poor practice.
  • Provide coordination and leadership to ensure all the basic physical needs of the young person on a daily basis are met and that accurate records for the young person are kept in line with organisational systems.
  • Be mindful of race, culture, language, and religion, to ensure that every young person is treated fairly and as an individual entitled to respect and dignity.
  • Be sensitive to the needs of individual young people and provide support and comfort to young people under stress, providing direction in this regards
  • Develop and implement daily shift planners and weekly planners for young people to ensure the smooth running of shifts.
  • To take the lead and work with internal and external services and professionals to ensure continuity of care for young people, maintaining professional relationships with young people, individuals with parent responsibility, social workers, teaching staff and other professionals involved in the care of young people; attending meetings as required.
  • To take the lead in the creation and maintenance of a therapeutic homely environment taking into account the young person’s wishes and preferences.
  • To ensure own and others continuing vigilance when supervising young people in line with risk assessments to ensure that significant behaviours are noted and recorded.
  • Be accountable to the homes petty cash and ensure financial systems and processes are followed correctly, providing direction to colleagues and challenging poor practice in this regard.
  • To coordinate and take a lead in carrying out tasks and maintain all relevant records pertaining to Health & Safety, fire safety and other records as directed by your line manager providing direction to colleagues in this regard.
  • Where requested carry out quality assurance process, inclusive of Regulation 45 / 33 reports and responding to Regulation 44 / 32 reports.
  • To actively monitor working practices of the home and provide feedback to staff teams regarding quality and standards.
  • To take the lead in co-ordinating the homes rota to effectively manage yours and others training commitments and annual leave responsibilities effectively, ensuring that you are proactive and use initiative to ensure that all working hours are used effectively. Role modelling flexibility where practicably possible to support the home in covering rotas, motivating and directing others as appropriate, actively monitoring and providing feedback to individuals.
  • Participate in the on-call rota as required adhering to the on-call policy and delivering the service to the standard expected by the organisation.
  • Take the lead in managing sickness initiating formal procedures were necessary.
  • To monitor and co-ordinate the development and implementation of daily shift planners and weekly planners for young people to ensure the smooth running of shifts, ensuring they are in place and being followed. Providing feedback to individuals and line manager in this regard.
  • To demonstrate flexibility where practicably possible to support our homes in covering rota’s
  • To facilitate effective handovers, actively monitoring and providing feedback to staff and line manager about the quality of handovers.
  • To act as a leader amongst the staff team, providing support to the team to help meet agreed objectives and goals.
  • To communicate positively and constructively about the young people, colleagues and organisation at all times.
  • Make use of regular supervisions and consistently demonstrate the skills to engage in personal reflection about the impact of the working on one’s own feelings, one’s colleagues and about one’s own strengths and weaknesses.
  • Utilise written communication effectively to share significant information with colleagues, line managers and other relevant professionals in a timely fashion.
  • To take the lead when working with internal and external services / professionals to ensure the continuity of care for young people.
  • To act with initiative, accountability and responsibility at all times to assist with functioning of the team, providing leadership, direction and guidance on shift.

  • Participate in staff meetings and clinical consultation as required, role modelling constructive and meaningful engagement with these processes.

Education, Training and Qualifications

Salary: £26,851.00 to £30,492.00
